Before launching Gno & Co, chef and founder Josh Berkowitz spent years building creative things—from book covers at San Francisco’s legendary Last Gasp, to learning environments for young children. His path to gnocchi ran through design studios, preschools, and a formative stint in Niamey, Niger, where a friend still talks about the from-scratch gnocchi he made during their time abroad. After years of working as an early childhood educator and administrator—helping expand access to programs like C5 Children’s School—Josh turned his attention to the thing that had always grounded him: cooking.
Gno & Co is the result of that shift: a fast-casual kitchen centered on fresh, handmade gnocchi and small-batch sauces. Drawing on the Italian tradition of using what you have and making it count, Josh experiments with ingredients like purple yam, cauliflower, butternut squash, and semolina—many of which are vegan and gluten-free. Sauces range from classics like pomodoro and vegan pesto to rotating seasonal flavors like saag with Indian spices. Every bowl reflects Josh’s belief that food should be personal, expressive, and deeply satisfying.
